Bhomra, Benapole land ports active again

All activities, including loading, unloading and delivery of goods, resumed at Benapole and Bhomra land ports yesterday and the day before after a halt for six and 17 days.
Our Benapole correspondent reported that activities at the country's main land port remained stopped for six days from Thursday afternoon due to violent activities by Jamaat-Shibir men and hartals enforced by Jamaat and BNP across the country.
The resumption of activities has triggered a traffic gridlock in the port area as hundreds of trucks and covered vans are waiting at all gates of the port to take delivery of imported goods.
Abdul Awal, director of Benapole Port, said as businessmen suffered a huge loss due to serious disruption in the last six days, we are trying to ensure quick delivery of imported goods. Around 2,000 workers have been engaged in loading, unloading and delivery of goods since the morning, he added.
In Satkira, export-import through Bhomra land port resumed on Thursday as Ghozadanga C&F Agents and Cargo Association withdrew their indefinite strike on Monday.
According to a correspondent, the leaders of Ghozadanga C&F Agents and Cargo Association told Bhomra port officials on Monday evening that they called off the strike following a fruitful discussion with the authorities concerned.
Leaders of Trinomul Congress Ghozadanga unit and Ghozadanga C&F Agents and Cargo Association held a meeting on Sunday where Bashirhat district administration agreed to withdraw the restriction on the movement of 10-wheel goods-laden trucks on a bridge at Ghozadanga.
Ghozadanga port C&F Agents and Cargo Association enforced the strike on February 18 to press home the demand for allowing the movement of 10-wheeler trucks on the bridge.
