Baul Festival in Kushtia

A two-day Baul Festival ended at Baul Bishu Shah Academy premises at Sharishadanga village in sadar upazila in Chuadanga last night.
The festival was inaugurated on Monday evening by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chuadanga, Delwar Hosain.
A rural fair, Baul Mela, was also held -- supported by Mominpur Union Parishad -- at the venue.
The programme highlighted the philosophy of the mystic bard Lalon.
On the inaugural day, a rally was brought out from the Academy. Baul artistes, cultural activists and people from all walks of life participated in the rally.
A discussion was also held. The theme of the discussion was “Our Culture and the Baul Way of Life in Bangladesh”.
Among others, Chuadanga Municipality Mayor Reazul Islam Joardar; Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Amin; local daily Dainik Mathabhanga Editor, Sardar Al Amin; Nezarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Chuadanga, Mokhlesur Rahman; Mominpur UP chairman Golam Faruk Joardar spoke at the discussion.
Local Bauls -- Gonjer Ali, Abdul Latif Shah, Anjali Ghosh and Samir Baul -- performed at the festival.
Bishu Shah Academy organises the programme annually.
On the occasion, the academy saw an influx of devotees and admirers from adjacent areas. A number of Bauls from Lalon shrine in Kushtia attended the festival.
