Titas Gas Distribution Company Ltd has disconnected a total of 112 household connections under Kuril zonal office and collected around Tk 27 lakh as penalty today.

Rashidul Alam, general manager (revenue) of Dhaka metro division at Titas, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

He said they started a special drive to disconnect gas supply to households and industries in the capital due to unpaid bills of around Tk 1,500 crore.

Today, 30 teams of the company conducted the drive and due to unpaid bills, cut off 91 connections and disconnected 21 illegal connections as well, he said.

The drive in the areas will continue tomorrow, adding that they would snap gas connections of bill defaulters in Mirpur next week.

"We will continue the drive in phases at other zones too," he added.
