2 arrested for protesting load-shedding in Rajshahi

Police arrested two people in Rajshahi's Tanore upazila yesterday night (April 7) while protesting load-shedding.

They are Saleh Al Sara (26) of Bongpur village and Mohammad Abdullah (24) of Dibbyosthol village in the upazila, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting Kamruzzaman Mia, officer-in-charge of Tanore Police Station.

Police also seized six motorcycles from the scene.

The police officer said the duo was arrested as they were about to attack on a power sub-station.

The incident began at 9:30pm on Thursday when a group of 20 people went to Debipur sub-station of Rajshahi Palli Bidyut Samity by six motorcycles, the police said.

Witnesses said the mob was demanding smooth power supply to their homes, shops and irrigation machines.

When asked, Deputy General Manager of Tanore zonal office Zahurul Islam said, two out of three sub-stations under the zone were witnessing a five-hour load-shedding since 6pm every alternative day.

But the load-shedding doesn't affect the irrigation, he added.
