Uttara-Agargaon part of Metro Rail to be operational by this Dec

Budget for Dhaka Mass Rapid Development (Line-6) project increased to Tk 33,471 crore

Dhaka Metro Rail, from Uttara to Agargaon, will be operational by December this year, project officials said. They shared the information at the ECNEC meeting today (July 19, 2022).

Following the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan spoke to reporters.

State Minister for Planning Prof Dr Shamsul Alam told reporters, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed to ensure connecting rail so that the passengers who will get off the metro rail in Dhaka's Kamalapur can go to the airport railway station. PM has also directed to construct a special tunnel from airport railway station to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport."

Planning Minister MA Mannan said that special projects are being undertaken to recover the damages caused by floods in haor areas. Towards this end, LGED Chief Engineer Sheikh Mohammad Mohsin is in haor area.

The original timeline of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Development (Line-6) project was from July 2012 to June 2024. This was later extended to December 25, 2025.

The original budget of the project was Tk 21,985 crore. Today, at the ECNEC meeting, it has been increased to Tk 33,471 crore.
