Commuters of Barishal have been in misery since this morning (November 4, 2022) as communication of the district with other parts of the country was cut off due to the two-day transport strike ahead of BNP's divisional rally tomorrow.

Around 9 in Nathullabad, the busiest area in the city, it was seen that no buses left for Dhaka and other destinations.

Also, no incoming buses also arrived. Only rickshaws are plying on the Dhaka-Barishal highway. Many are leaving for their destination on foot. Some motorcycles were also seen on the road.

No boats were seen in the city's Charkaua Kheyaghat, as their movement was suspended last night. Some trawlers were kept on the other side of the river.

Hanif, who is from Nazirpur in Pirojpur district, had been waiting at the Kheyaghat in Barishal city since morning but could not avail any vessel till 11:45 pm to return home. He said, "We are all suffering due to the closure of the boat movement."

In Bheduria Ghat of Bhola, Billal Hossain had been waiting for about two hours. He said he needed to go to Barishal for the operation of his nephew. However, he did not get any transport from the ghat since morning.

At Nathullabad Bus Stand, a young man was seen desperately looking for a transport to go to Swarupkathi upazila in Pirojpur. He received the news of his mother's death this morning.

"I have to go home anyway. If necessary, I will walk 30 miles to see my dead mother," he said.

A DIFFERENT SCENARIO AT BANGABANDHU UDYAN

According to BNP sources, leaders and activists from different parts of Barishal district have been entering the city by trawlers overnight.
