Sylhet district transport workers called a strike for an indefinite period demanding bail of Ali Akbar Rajon, joint secretary of Sylhet Bus-Minibus Workers' Union.

Rajon, also a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, was arrested in connection with a sabotage case.

Sylhet District Paribahan Oikya Parishad called the transport strike and would continue their movement until Rajon gets bail from the court, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting Moynul Islam, president of the workers' union.

According to the announcement, all types of buses, minibuses, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, legunas, and trucks will not ply on the roads in Sylhet district from this morning.

Moynul Islam said, "Rajon has been in jail for one and a half months and his bail plea is being rejected repeatedly. Since he is not getting bail, we called the strike."

Rajon, an accused in a sabotage case filed in 2018, was arrested by members of Kotwali Police Station on December 7 from the Surma Market area of Sylhet city.
