The capital's rail connection with the rest of the country resumed after nearly five hours as temporary workers under Bangladesh Railway withdrew their blockade.

Trains to and from Dhaka started running at 2:55pm, Khairul Kabir, BR's divisional transport officer (Dhaka division), told The Daily Star.

Around 4:15pm, the workers took up position on the street in front of the Rail Bhaban, reports our staff correspondent from the spot.

The workers blocked the tracks in Karwan Bazar around 10:00am today, causing suspension of Dhaka's rail communication with the rest of the country.

They withdrew the blockade around 2:30pm, and are now marching to the Rail Bhaban to press home their demands, our photographer reports from the spot.

The demands include being made permanent employees, and that BR stop outsourcing jobs.
