Bus-minibus strike ahead of Faridpur BNP rally: Commuters left in the lurch

Commuters have been suffering following the 38-hour bus-minibus strike since this morning ahead of a BNP divisional rally scheduled to be held in Faridpur tomorrow.

Many people were seen waiting at the bus stand for a long time and many are seen walking on the road with their luggage since they did not get any bus there, our local correspondent reports.

Faridpur Bus-Minibus Owners' Association has called a 38-hour strike starting from today.

"No bus will leave or enter Faridpur town in the morning," said motor workers group association president Jubayar Zakir.

Zakir Hossain, a bus driver, said that they did not know why the association has called the strike. "It is nothing but the suffering for the passengers and the bus workers," he said.

Rahul Hasnat, a man from Bhanga upazila, said that he came to Faridpur yesterday. But now he has to return to Bhanga.

Meanwhile, BNP leaders alleged that the transport association has called the strike to prevent the rally.

Syed Modarresh Ali, Faridpur District BNP Convener, said that defying the bus strike our leaders and activists from different areas have been joining the venue.
