15 cases filed in Dhaka, Ctg for overcharging passengers

Mobile courts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed 15 cases against 15 buses in Dhaka and Chattogram city for overcharging passengers today (August 7, 2022).

The courts also realized Tk 32,500 as fine from those vehicles, a BRTA official confirmed The Daily Star today.

A total of 12 mobile courts conducted the drives on the first day after the bus fare was hiked to 22 percent following the record hike fuel prices, he said wishing not to be named.

Besides, a bus of Banashri Paribahan, which was actually CNG-driven, was not allowed to operate, for charging the same fares as diesel-run buses.

Moreover, the courts fined 93 vehicles Tk 2.6 lakh for violating different traffic-related rules. Two vehicles were dumped and two brokers were given jail terms, he said.
