Supporters thronging to Jubo League rally in the capital

People from all over the capital and other parts of the country have been making their way to Suhrawardy Udyan, where Jubo League is set to hold a mammoth rally that will also be attended by Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

This will be the first-ever appearance of Hasina in any public rally since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020.

Although the rally, set to start this afternoon, is aimed at marking the golden jubilee of the Awami League's youth wing, AL insiders said the gathering is meant to show the ruling party's strength and popularity and give a fitting reply to BNP's ongoing anti-government movement and series of rallies.

Wearing T-shirts, caps and carrying banner, festoons, the activists are coming from different directions leading to the rally venue, according to our correspondent reporting from near the venue. 

Divided into small groups, the activists were chanting slogans, playing drums and waving the national and party flags.

Activists from different units outside Dhaka said they came to the capital by hiring buses, launches.

Shairful Islam, an activist of Purba Dhola upazila unit of Netrakona district, said he along with 2,000 activists came to Dhaka to join the rally.

According to Jubo League sources, around 10 lakh supporters will attend the rally.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has already announced traffic control measures, closing certain routes, for the rally.
