Resign first, then there will be match: Khasru

BNP Standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that people of Barishal made a revolution through their presence in the rally.

"Today's rally showed that BNP men did not need any transport to attend any rally." he said while addressing the BNP's divisional rally in Barishal today.

Terming the government "irresponsible", the BNP leader said when the country is passing a very critical time, the ruling Awami League said "there will be a match, but who will play?

"First resign from the office and then there will be a match," he said adding that Awami League is a third division team while BNP a first division one.

Standing committee member Selima Rahman said the way the party men attended the rally, defying all the odds and obstacles, it showed that the people of the country does not want to see the government in the office anymore.

Vice chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed alleged that the incumbent "illegal" government has destroyed all the institutions of the country through looting and corruption.

"People have already showed red card to the government," he said adding that, "We don't want to go to the office, rather we want a free and fair election."

Vice chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo said if the government is not ousted the famine cannot be averted.

He further said the government will be ousted on December 10 as people of the country has awaken up.

Slain BNP leader Abdur Rahim's wife also addressed the rally when all leaders and activists present at the venue became emotional.

The Bangabandhu Udyan premises have been filled with party leaders and activists since this morning. Tens of thousands of party men were seen within a 3-kilometer radius of the rally's location.

During the past three days, party leaders and workers have arrived from several divisional districts. Even though the event was set to begin at 2pm, the rally started at 11am.

BNP men from different upazilas of Barishal and five other districts in the division are travelled yesterday to the city by boats, trawlers, motorcycles and even on foot defying bus and three-wheeler strikes.
