'One has to submit resignation letter to the Speaker, not at rally'

AL Joint General Secretary Hanif says as Savar rally begins

Awami League's rally began in Radio Colony ground adjacent to the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar this afternoon.

After joining the event, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said, "I heard that seven BNP lawmakers have announced their resignations. You have a democratic right to resign, but to resign, you have to submit your resignation letter to the Speaker, not at the rally ground."

"This government is not Ershad's government, it is not Khaleda Zia's government. This government is the government of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina. This government cannot be pushed away," he added.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, is on his way to address the rally as chief guest.

The rally, organised by the Savar Awami League, began at 2:00pm.

The party is holding the rally at a time when BNP is also holding its divisional rally at Golapbagh field in the capital.

Dhaka District Awami League General Secretary Paniruzzaman Tarun said, BNP and Jamaat has been creating anarchy in the country. "Through this rally, we want to prove that the people of the country have rejected BNP-Jamaat."

Leaders and activists were seen entering the venue in processions since this morning to attend the party's rally.
