Noakhali district Awami league has recommended to the party's high command to suspend Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, member of the parliament from Noakhali-4 (Sadar-Subarnachar) constituency, from the MP post and to relieve him from all the posts including the party's primary membership.

The decision was taken unanimously at an executive committee meeting held at the Naokhali district AL office today, reports our Noakhali correspondent.

Advocate Shihab Uddin Shaheen, joint convener of Noakhali district AL, said that the decision was taken as Ekramul stood against the party candidates in the recently held union parishad and municipality elections.

A letter in this regard will be sent to AL president and general secretary tomorrow, he said.

"Although Ekramul Karim Chowdhury was elected MP with AL ticket, he has left the people confused by taking a stand against the party candidates and the party symbol," the AL leader said, adding that due to his role, local AL leaders expressed their grievances against the MP in the meeting.

The meeting was presided over by Noakhali district AL convener Principal Khairul Anam Selim where district AL joint convener and Noakhali municipality mayor Shahid Ullah Khan Sohel, Noakhali-3 MP Mamunur Rashid Kiron, Noakhali-6 lawmaker Begum Ayesha Ferdous spoke, among others.
