Insaniyat Biplab Bangladesh now EC-registered party

Insaniyat Biplab Bangladesh has got registered with the Election Commission as a political party following a High Court order.

The EC issued a gazette notification in this connection today.

The notification, signed by EC Secretariat Secretary Jahangir Alam, read that electoral symbol of the party will be "Apple".

The party sought its registration in December 2017. The EC, however, rejected the application.

The party leaders then filed a writ with the HC challenging the EC's decision.

A party must be registered with the EC to take part in election. The EC has been providing registration to political parties since 2008 in line with the Representation of the People Order, 1972.

With Insaniyat Biplab Bangladesh, the number of registered political parties is now 41.

Since 2008, a total of 46 political parties have got registration and five political parties' registrations were cancelled.
