India wants to see fair polls in Bangladesh: GM Quader

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader yesterday said India wants to see a fair election in Bangladesh and they will be happy if there is no violence before and after the polls.

"India has a lot of investments in this country. So, India wants the next government to be formed in Bangladesh through fair elections. India wants us all to create a good election environment. There should be no violence and no instability in Bangladesh," said the JP chief.

Quader, also deputy leader of the opposition, said this while talking to reporters at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Led by GM Quader, a three-member delegation returned to the country after a four-day visit to India.

GM Quadersaid the JP delegation went to India at the invitation of the Indian government.

"I have spoken to several important people. I can't disclose with whom we held talks and what we have discussed," he said.

"Discussions were held regarding the interests of the two countries. They have a good idea about Jatiya Party; they consider Jatiya Party a potential party. They hope that their relationship with Jatiya Party will remain cordial in future," said the JP chairman.

In response to a question, GM Quader said India thinks that the differences of opinion among parties in Bangladesh are internal matter.

"India wants us to resolve the crisis through dialogue."

He said, "We will take a few more days to make our decision [on the next polls]. We have never said that we will boycott the election. The decision regarding the election will be made after talking to leaders of our party. We want the next election to be fair."

Asked about the intra-party feud, GM Quadersaid, "I never had any conflict with her [JP Chief Patron Raushan Ershad]."

"Some people are conspiring to weaken the Jatiya Party. They are plotting to tarnish our image so that Jatiya Party cannot stand strong. I think action should be taken against those involved in this," added GM Quader.
