Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the government has not held any discussion with the BNP about permitting the party's Chairperson Khaleda Zia to travel abroad for medical treatment under any condition.

While addressing reporters at the Secretariat, he said the question of Khaleda seeking treatment abroad was now a legal matter for the courts. There is no political aspect in this issue.

About the government's stance, he said, "Our position on this matter is crystal clear: the terms of her suspension of punishment were that she must receive treatment staying at her home, and she cannot go abroad."

The minister said that there was no legal provision permitting the alteration of those conditions.

Anisul clarified that any individual could seek a presidential pardon, if he or she admitted their guilt in the process.

Anisul Huq also said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakrul was spreading false information about this matter and causing confusion among the people of the country.
