Minister of Information and Broadcasting as well as Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Hasan Mahmud said, the deputy commissioner of Chattogram was removed from the duty of Returning Officer without giving any opportunity to defend himself over seeking prayer for AL during the filing of nominations for the Zila Parishad elections.

The information minister said this while responding to queries of journalists in the gymnasium hall of Chattogram MA Aziz Stadium this afternoon (September 30, 2022), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

The deputy commissioner of Chattogram was removed from the duty of Returning Officer on the basis of a prayer during the filing of nominations for the Zila Parishad elections.

In response to the question of whether there has been any investigation, the information minister said that out of hundreds of people there, someone prayed.

"As a Muslim, if someone prays here and I stand here without praying, they will call me a heathen," he said, adding, because of that, the DC has also prayed there.

"I don't think that the responsibility of who said what during the prayer rests on the deputy commissioner," said the minister.

He said, in this case, a show cause notice should have been served to the DC, adding, he should have been given a chance to defend himself.
