BNP leaders today urged Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruk to take initiatives to ensure that ruling Awami League leaders and activists do not create any chaos centring BNP's divisional rally in Dhaka on December 10.

A party delegation talked to the DMP commissioner when the leaders went to the latter's office to seek permission for holding the party's divisional public rally on December 10.

During the meeting, the delegation requested the DMP commissioner for taking necessary measures so that none can bar BNP leaders and activists from joining the rally.

The AL men should not take to the street before the rally to create a fearful situation, the BNP leaders said.

"We sought permission to hold the rally in front of the party's Nayapaltan headquarters. The DMP authority also wanted to know whether we have any other option. We said we will let him know after discussing with the senior leaders of the party," Abdus Salam, convener of Dhaka North city unit BNP, told The Daily Star.

The DMP commissioner said they would inform the party leaders about the venue later.

"We requested the commissioner to inform us shortly [about permission] so that we can take preparations," Abbdus Salam said.
