At least 26 leaders and activists of Jubo Dal were critically injured after police charged batons at the protest rally organised in front of Jashore BNP's party office today.

The injured are now undergoing treatment at Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Aninda Islam Amit, acting organising secretary of Khulna Division BNP.

Injured Zilhaj Robin said Detective Branch (DB) of Police charged batons on Jubo Dal leaders and activists at their protest rally which was organised in front of its office demanding the punishment of the killing of Sirajganj Jubo Dal leader Akbar Ali.

BNP leader Aninda said police suddenly charged batons unprovoked on Jubo Dal's peaceful demonstration where at least 50 leaders and activists were injured.

Of them, critically injured Jubo Dal men were admitted at the hospital, he added.

Jashim Uddin, on-duty doctor of Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital's emergency department said the injured persons are now out of danger.

Denying the allegation of charging batons, Tasmim Alam, inspector (investigation) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station said despite the embargo of organising the rally, around 100 leaders and activists gathered at Jashore BNP's party office.

When police asked them to clear the place, Jubo Dal leaders showed unruly behaviour forcing police force to chase them, the police officer said, adding that they heard that some got injured during the chasing.
