Senior journalist Quamrul Islam Chowdhury no more

Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, former general secretary of the Jatiya Press Club, passed away tonight at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

He was 63.

He breathed his last at 8:30 pm, family members said.

Quamrul, also former news editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), had been suffering from liver, kidney and lung ailments.

He had been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for nearly a week.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Quamrul, also former chairman of Forum of Environmental Journalists of Bangladesh (FEJB), obtained his graduation and post-graduation degrees from Dhaka University.

Sharifuzzaman Pintu, acting editor of Dainik Bangla, said he played his role as a negotiator on climate related issues on behalf of the government and private organisations.
