Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar today said Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda criticised him out of vengeance as they had different positions regarding different election issues.

Mahbub Talukdar in a statement today also said EC bears the medical expense of all current and former commissioners according to rule, and the CEC had avail it also.

"It is my right to get proper medical facilities as election commissioner. CEC has resorted to such vile means against me, out of vengeance as I have different positions on election-related issues," said Mahbub.

CEC Huda while attending a press meet organised by Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy at the EC yesterday said Mahbub Talukdar has a "personal agenda".

When asked about Mahbub Talukdar's criticism of candidates getting elected unopposed, Huda said, "the EC cannot do anything if political parties do not run in the elections".

"He (Mahbub Talukder) stayed in the ICU and CCU, spent from Tk 30 to Tk 40 lakh in a year as medical expenses paid by the EC and made comments for getting those published by the media. all these are personal," said CEC Huda.
