Syed Shaukat Ally passes away

Syed Shaukat Ally passed away on December 23 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

He left behind his wife Arefa Shaukat, daughter Afreen Emdad, son Mehrab Ally and four grandchildren.

Shaukat Ally was the son of late Syed Mustafa Ali of Moulvibazar, Sylhet and the younger brother of late SM Ali, the founding editor of The Daily Star.

His siblings include late Syed Muazzem Ali, former high commissioner to India, and Prof Fowzia Ally.

Born on May 3, 1934 in Moulvibazar, his career began at Ispahani Tea. He later joined BJMC in 1970 where he became the general manager of the marketing division in the late '70s.

He received the President's Export Award in 1977-78 and then went on to set up the Atlanta

Marketing Office in Atlanta in 1981. He remained at that position until 1988.

He later joined The Asiatic International Company in Boston in 1991 from where he retired. After retirement he settled in the Atlanta area with his family and lived there until his demise.
