SC chamber judge delivers 160 orders in Bangla

Pays tributes to language movement martyrs

In a rare move, the Supreme Court chamber judge today delivered 160 orders in Bangla instead of English, marking the first day of February ahead of International Mother Language Day.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, did this to pay tributes to the martyrs and, as a part of introducing the Bangla language in the higher judiciary.

"From now on, I will try to pass all orders in Bangla instead of English until I conduct judicial functions as the chamber of the Appellate Division," Justice M Enayetur Rahim said, during passing the orders.

According to court sources, this is the first time a chamber judge of the Appellate Division delivered orders in Bangla.

Earlier in the day, at least three divisions (two judges) of the High Court delivered judgements and orders in Bangla, showing respect to the language heroes.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique inaugurated a Bangla edition of the Supreme Court website today.

People from the country and abroad, including justice seekers, lawyers, law students and researchers, can get information about cases from this website, SC Spokesman Mohammad Saifur Rahman told The Daily Star.
