Activists of various voluntary and non-government organisations observed a protest programme by blocking Kaliganj-Shyamnagar regional highway for two hours yesterday in Shyamnagar of Satkhira, demanding climate justice.

Sundarbans' Student Solidarity Team and Coastal Education and Diversity Improvement Organization organised the programme in collaboration with research institute, BARSIC, in Chaurasta intersection in Shyamnagar from 9am to 11am, reports a correspondent from Satkhira.

The protesters, mostly students and youths of coastal areas, demanded climate justice by displaying placards with various slogans.

Speaking at the programme, they said Bangladesh is not responsible for climate change. Earlier Bangladesh used to face disasters after many years, but now people of coastal areas are in the grip of disasters almost every month.

"We want climate justice. We want to live healthy. For this, countries affected by climate change should be compensated appropriately," they said.
