Mobile courts of Rapid Action Battalion are conducting drives at different markets of in Dhaka today amid unusual price hike of eggs.

The operations are being conducted at Kaptan Bazar in Old Dhaka and different other kitchen markets in Badda areas from this morning to control the market situation, said Khandaker Al Moin, Rab's legal and media wing director.

Details will be given at the end of the operations, he said.

On August 12, three egg traders were fined Tk 30,000 during an operation conducted in Kaptan Bazar.

The price of eggs has increased by leaps and bounds in the last few days.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi yesterday said that the government would import eggs if price of the affordable source of animal protein keeps an upward trend.

Egg price rose substantially over the last week, piling further pressure on consumers who are already facing tough times due to the high cost of living crisis in Bangladesh.

Yesterday, retailers in Dhaka were selling 12 brown eggs for Tk 160 to Tk 170 while it was Tk 125 the week before.
