PM Hasina’s gift of mangoes handed over to Indian PM Modi, President Kovind

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's gifts of sweet Haribhanga mangoes were handed over to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind today.

The consignment of mangoes entered India by road through Benapole-Petrapol land border and was later transported to New Delhi by train today. They were handed over by the Bangladesh High Commission in India to the dignitaries through the Indian Ministry of External Affairs today.

"As a mark of friendship and goodwill, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has sent 2,000 Kgs of Bangladesh origin seasonal mangoes (Haribhanga) to the Indian President Shri Ramnath Kovind and the Prime Minister of Narendra Modi," said an official of Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi.

Meanwhile Bangladesh's Assistant High Commissioner in Mohammad Jobayed Hosen handed over 300 kgs mangoes to the Tripura Chief Minister at his office today afternoon.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her gifts.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also sent mangoes to Indian Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam, Zoramthanga of Mizoram and Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya.

On July 1, Bangladesh sent Haribhanga mangoes to the Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Lotay Tshering, a graduate from Mymensingh Medical College, who is fond of Bangladeshi mangoes.

Prime Minister Hasina will also send mangoes to Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Earlier, Bangladesh also sent Haribhanga mangoes to Oman.

The Royal family of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan will soon receive the mangoes.

Notable mango varieties include Haribhanga, Gopalbogh, Khirsapat, Himsagar, Langra, Amropali, Fazlee, Mohonbhog etc. Bangladesh mangoes are particularly famed for their aroma, flavour, thin skin, golden hue and little fibre.

"We have very sweet and delicious mangoes and we produced plenty of them. We would like to share our happiness and of course, delicious mangoes with our neighbours and friends in this historic year of Mujib Borsho and Golden Jubilee year of our independence and therefore," said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen to Indian media WION.
