Plagiarism in textbook: Dr Zafar Iqbal, Prof Haseena take responsibility

Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and Prof Haseena Khan have expressed sadness and disappointment over the plagiarism that was found in the science textbook for class-7 -- an incident that drew wide criticism.

They issued a statement yesterday admitting that some passages were actually direct translation of contents in the National Geography Educational website.

A Prothom Alo opinion piece on this allegation had drawn their attention, the statement read. "We have determined that the allegation is true after comparing the textbook's passages with the website's contents."

Even though they were not the writers of the mentioned parts, they are still responsible as the editors, the statement added.
