Over 50 students fall ill after drinking water from tube-well in Thakurgaon school

At least fifty students of a school fell ill after drinking water from a tube-well at Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon today (September 28, 2022).

The incident took place at Shitalpur High School, our Thakurgaon correspondent reports quoting Tazul Islam, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station.

The students were admitted to Haripur Upazila Health Complex, he added.

"During the tiffin break, the students drank water from the school tube-well. At first, four to five students reportedly feeling ill," the OC said.

Later, when many others started showing symptoms of dizziness and abdominal pain, the school authorities brought them to Haripur Upazila Health Complex.

Altafur Rahman, acting headmaster of the school, said, "When the students fell ill after drinking the water of the tube-well, the teachers inspected the water. Dirty water was seen coming out of the tube well. Nearly 50 to 60 students of different classes fell ill and they were taken to the upazila health complex for treatment".

Md Asaduzzaman, resident doctor of the health complex said the students were brought to the hospital around 2:00pm.

"They were given treatment. They are out of danger now," he informed.

OC Tazul said samples of water have been collected from the tube-well for testing.

Haripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Bahni Shikha Asha said the OC has been asked to look into the matter.
