The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed an order of Bangladesh Copyright Office that granted copyright of 260 boos of "Masud Rana" and 50 of "Kuasha" series to ghostwriter Sheikh Abdul Hakim.

The apex court today (August 8, 2022) issued an order of status quo on selling the books till its further order.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order after granting a leave to appeal petition filed by the grandchildren of Kazi Anwar Hossain, owner of Seba Prokashoni, challenging a HC verdict.

Three grandchildren of late Kazi Anwar Hossain can now move a regular appeal before the Appellate Division against the HC verdict, their lawyer Hamidul Mishbah told The Daily Star.

On December 13 last year, the HC upheld the order of Bangladesh Copyright Office that granted copyrights of the books to Sheikh Abdul Hakim.

The HC delivered the verdict after rejecting a writ petition filed by Kazi Anwar Hossain, challenging the copyright office order.

The copyright office on June 14, 2020 granted the copyright of the books to Sheikh Abdul Hakim.
