Man, daughter dead after he poisoned self, his 3 children over domestic dispute

A man and his 9-year-old daughter died today in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila after he poisoned himself and his three children -- reportedly over domestic dispute.

The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain (40) and his daughter, Sumaiya Akter. The incident took place around 4am today.

Anwar's other children, Mayma (5) and Jaber Hossain (3), are currently undergoing treatment at the Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital, reports our local correspondent quoting police.

Quoting neighbours, Teknaf Police Station Inspector (Investigation), Abdul Alim, said that Anwar and his wife, Rehena Akter, had been arguing for some time. After a recent dispute with her husband, Rehena left home yesterday and did not return.

This morning, Anwar poisoned himself and his three children. Anwar and Sumaiya died on the spot, he said, adding that police recovered their bodies and sent them to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Rehena Akhtar could not be reached immediately, the inspector added.

Hospital's Medical Officer, Shaheen Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, said that a medical team has been formed to treat the surviving children.
