Major reshuffle in field admin

23 districts get new DCs

In a major reshuffle in the administration, the government has posted new deputy commissioners in 23 districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna.

Besides, CID Special Superintendent Kamal Hossain was transferred to Gaibandha as the superintendent of police while Deputy Police Commissioner of Gazipur Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain was transferred to Brahmanbaria as SP.

Mohammad Mominur Rahman was transferred to Dhaka district as the DC from Chattogram and a deputy secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration (MoPA) was appointed as the DC of Chattogram, according to a gazette notification issued by the ministry on Wednesday.

Anisur Rahman and Touhidul Islam, the SPs in Gaibandha and Brahmanbaria, were transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Jahangir Hossain was transferred to Barishal as the DC from Sunamganj and Khandakar Yasir Arefin was transferred to Khulna as the DC from Nilphamari.

Dider-E-Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury, who was the personal secretary to the state minister for religious affairs, was posted as the DC of Sunamganj while the deputy director of Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's office Chitralikha Naznen was posted as the DC of Rangpur.

Mostafizar Rahman was transferred from the MoPA as the DC of Mymensingh.

Besides, DCs were also appointed in Cumilla, Patuakhali, Tangail, Sunamganj, Gopalganj, Kurigram, Sirajganj, Jhalakathi, Faridpur, Khagrachhari, Bogura, Kishoreganj, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Cox's Bazar, Joypurhat and Magura.

In August, SPs in 40 districts were transferred.

Since it is customary for SPs and DCs to work in a district for around three years, the reshuffle has significance as many of the officials will play a vital role during the national election which is likely to be held in late December 2023 or early January 2024.

Contacted, former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder said the transfers were part of a regular process.

Some of those officials were promoted and had to be transferred to higher posts, he said.
