HSC Questions: Edu boards punish 10 teachers

Education board authorities have punished 10 teachers who prepared and  scrutinised the HSC questions that created controversy over communal issues and belittled a renowned writer.

The five teachers, who prepared and scrutinised Bangla first paper questions of HSC exams that hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus, will not be allowed to take part in any activities related to public exams anymore.

Jashore Education Board took the decision after its probe committee found that the teachers violated the government guidelines while making the question paper, the board's Exam Controller Madhab Chandra Rudro said yesterday.

The five teachers are Assistant Professor Prashanta Kumar Pal of Dr Saiful Islam Degree College; Associate Professor Syed Tajuddin Shaon of Narail Government Victoria College; Associate Professor Shafiqur Rahman of Satkhira Government Mahila College; Assistant Professor Shyamal Kumar Ghosh of Mirzapur United College in Narail; and Assistant Professor Rezaul Karim of Bheramara Adarsha College in Kushtia.

Of them, Prashanta Kumar prepared the question, which was later moderated by the other teachers.

A directive of the education ministry issued in 2009 barred question makers and moderators from making any question that disrespects religion, religious place, state establishment, historical place, and others.

The directive also prevents teachers from making and allowing questions that have the names of politically, religiously, and socially important people.

Exam Controller Madhab said the probe report was sent to the education ministry and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.

Meanwhile, the technical education board, in separate notices, imposed life-term ban on five teachers from taking part in any activity related to  public exams, as they belittled a writer and prepared a question following  the wrong syllabus.

The board banned question setter Shakhwat Hossain, lecturer of Mahakali Girls  School and College, and two moderators -- Gafargaon  Technical School and College Lecturer Sheuli Begum and Natore Technical and BM College Assistant Professor Parveen Akter -- for their  involvement in demeaning the writer.

It also took action against  Bangabandhu Technical and Business College lecturers Mirza Sujah Uddin  Ahammad and Jamir Uddin for setting and moderating Bangla first-paper  exams under the board following wrong syllabi.
