Authorities of Shikor Agro Industries Limited have acknowledged that Rani, a 20-inch tall and 28-kg cow awaiting recognition by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's smallest cow, has died.

Savar Upazila Sub-Assistant Livestock Officer Abdul Motalib yesterday confirmed to The Daily Star that Rani died around 2:00pm but authorities of Shikor Agro, who owned the cow, had claimed that it was a rumour, reports our Savar correspondent.

Mujtaba Abul Ahad, executive director of the farm, confirmed Rani's death on Shikor Agro's  Facebook page last night around 9:00pm.

"Rani died before getting the title of the world's smallest cow. She fell sick and was rushed to Savar Animal and Veterinary Hospital on the advice of our veterinarian Atiquzzaman," he said.

"We have emailed the Guinness Book of World Records authorities informing them of Rani's death and requested them to take the next step," he said.

Rani entered the spotlight in the first week of July this year after she featured on several print and electronic media outlets.
