Ex-MP Ashika Akbar passes away

Former lawmaker Syeda Ashika Akbar passed away while she was undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka yesterday.

She was 78.

She left behind her husband, three daughters and two sons and numerous admirers to mourn her death.

Ashika was the only daughter of Nawabjada Hasan Ali Chowdhury, son of Syed Nawab Ali Chawdhury, Nawab of Dhanbari.

She was buried at the family graveyard after a namaz-e-janaja on Nawab Eidgah ground in Dhanbari, Tangail after Asr prayers.

Ashika was elected MP from Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari) constituency in the 1981 by-election as a BNP candidate.

Dr Abdur Razzaque, agriculture minister and incumbent lawmaker of the constituency, expressed his deep shock at her death and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
