Some 600 Bangladeshis, who were stranded in war-torn Sudan, have safely reached Port Sudan from Khartoum early yesterday.

The local Bangladesh embassy is coordinating the evacuation process and the evacuees are now waiting at the port to reach Jeddah by ship, said Mohammad Saikat, one of the evacuees.

The evacuees stayed on a madrasa premises overnight after reaching Port Sudan. They were given bread and banana for dinner, he added.

"In the morning, the embassy authorities took our passports. They are trying to send us to Jeddah," he said.

In the morning, the authorities gave hotchpotch for brunch, he added.

He also said that separate accommodations were made for the Bangladeshi female migrants.

Bangladesh embassy earlier said that two Bangladeshi schools in Jeddah will provide food, water, medicine, and temporary accommodation for the evacuees.
