English daily The Independent closes all operations

English daily, "The Independent" ceased all its operations from today.

Earlier in April, 2020, the English daily owned by Beximco had stopped its print version, Shamim Abdullah Zahedy, executive editor of the prominent English daily told The Daily Star.

"We have stopped all activities of the newspaper as part of the business decision as investors found the newspaper economically not viable," he also said.

He also said the authorities have informed the decision to all its employees and will pay all dues as per the law of the land.

The newspaper was launched on March 26, 1995.

A reporter of the newspaper said the authorities today informed the decision and assured to pay all their dues.
