Law Minister Anisul Huq today said Deputy Attorney General Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan breached discipline by making statements about a letter that the latter said was being prepared by the attorney general's office in relation to Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus.

The law minister made the remarks while responding to a question from journalists after he emerged from a discussion on the proposed Cyber Security Act.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) organised the discussion at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

"He [Imran ] is a DAG in the Attorney General's Office. If he speaks to reporters, he should either resign and speak, or seek the attorney general's permission [before he talks]. He didn't. He has broken discipline," the law minister said.

When asked what would happen next regarding the issue, the law minister said, "I will look into it."

Meanwhile, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin today said DAG Imran's intention behind telling media about not signing an alleged statement on Prof Yunus was to make "somebody happy".

Speaking to reporters at his office in the Supreme Court premises, the AG also denied that his office was preparing any statement protesting the recent letter in favour of Prof Yunus sent by global figures and Nobel Laureates to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

DAG Imran yesterday said he refrained from signing a statement, which he said was prepared by the attorney general's office, protesting the global figures' letter.
