Communal attacks: CU students protest with poetry, songs, and dance performances

Protesting the recent countrywide communal attacks across the country following a reported incident of "demeaning the Holy Quran" in Cumilla, students of Chittagong University (CU) waged a protest today on the campus through poetry, songs, plays and dance.

The event took place at 1:00pm in front of Joy Bangla Sculpture under the banner of "Non-communal Students of CU" where a large number of teachers and students took part.

In between the speeches, poetry recitation, songs, play and dance performances were held in phases at the programme.

Addressing the programme as chief guest CU Vice Chancellor Professor Shirin Akhter said all religious people including Hindus and Muslims are living in this country for a long time maintaining communal harmony.

She called for unity so that no evil power can destroy the existing harmony among the people of the country.

CU Pro-VC Professor Benu Kumar Dey said secularism is one of the fundamental parts of the constitution. And the celebration of Durga Puja is part of that secularism, he said, adding that a vested quarter is carrying out attacks on Hindu community in the name of religion which has exceeded the barbarism of Pakistani occupational forces.

Later, a play named Shei Sompriti Chai was staged at the programme.
