Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sworn in

Newly appointed Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique was sworn in today as the 23rd chief justice of Bangladesh.

President M Abdul Hamid administered his oath at the Darbar Hall of the Bangabhaban at 4:00pm.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, outgoing Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, judges of the Appellate Division- Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Obaidul Hassan, heads of the three armed forces, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, among others, attended the ceremony, Md Joynal Abedin, press secretary to the president, told The Daily Star.

He said the oath ceremony was held in a very limited scale due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, was appointed as the chief justice of the country yesterday.

Later that day, Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, the senor most judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, went on a leave.
