BTRC shuts 178 unauthorised news portals

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has shut down 178 unregistered news portals.

The process of shutting them down began on Tuesday.

Mustafa Jabbar, post and telecommunications minister, told The Daily Star, "We received a list of unregistered news portals from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting last night [Tuesday night].

"We've been instructed by the High Court to shut down unregistered portals."

Only those on the list given to them by the information ministry were shut down, he added.
