'Been 3 days since we lit the stove; sharing a tent with 30 people'

"I don't know when I'll be able to fix everything," said 80-year-old Ruhini Chandra Das of Pirganj's Majhipara village, while staring at his house gutted by fire.

Following the arson attack on October 17, the 10-member family is now staying in a Red Crescent Society tent.

Four rooms of Ruhini's house were set on fire by the attackers. All the furniture were completely destroyed.

Naresh Chandra, Ruhini's son, had a motorcycle that was also burnt to ashes. Both Naresh and his brother, masons by profession, used the bike to commute for work.

Ruhini and his family received two bundles of iron sheets, Tk 32,000, and 20kg rice from public and private organisations in the last few days.

The elderly man told our Bogura correspondent that though the help is appreciated, it is impossible to fix the damages in a short time.

Ruhini's daughter Chinibala said, "We had a cow along with a calf. The attackers took the cow and left the calf."

Miscreants forced everyone out of the house and set it on fire on the night of the attack. Ruhini was unable to take anything from his house.

"It's been three days since the stove has been lit; we're sharing a tent with more than 30 people. I'm not sure when things will return to normal," Ruhini said.

When asked about his sons, Ruhini said they went to collect aid.
