A campus reporter was beaten allegedly by activists of Jahangirnagar University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League early yesterday.

The incident took place at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall.

The victim Asif Al Amin, JU correspondent of United News of Bangladesh, claimed he was attacked by followers of JU BCL general secretary Habibur Rahman Liton.

"Some BCL activists came to the hall guest room following a programme marking August 21 grenade attack. I was drinking tea outside the hall. Upon hearing screams, I rushed to the spot. Then they started attacking me on suspicion that I was secretly recording their video. When I gave my identity, they beat me even more," said Asif. He has given a written complaint to the hall provost.

The alleged BCL men are deputy library affairs secretary of JU BCL unit Mehedi Hasan, and activists Naim Hossain, Aminur Sumon, Hridoy Roy and Safayet Hossain Toha.

Hall provost Palash Saha said, "We have received the complaint. Actions will be taken following investigation."
