A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Burimari border in Lalmonirhat's Patgram upazila early today.

The deceased was identified as Biplab Mia alias Bipul of Dhabalsuti Gatiarvita village in Patgram, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent.

Confirming the incident, Burimari BGB camp commander Ekramul Haque said a protest letter was sent to BSF following the killing.

According to BGB and police, a patrol team of Changrabandha camp under BSF Battalion-98 in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal fired 3 to 4 shots near the main pillar-843 around 4:00am when a group of 8-10 people crossed the border to bring cattle from India.

Bipul was shot in the chest. His group members brought him back to Bangladesh. He died later, they said.

Bipul's father Rashidul Islam told The Daily Star that his son used to bring cows from India. "I forbade my son many times not to go to India. But he did not listen to me," he said.

Officers-in-Charge of Patgram Police Station Omar Farooq said police recovered the body in the morning and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
