5 women to receive 'Begum Rokeya Padak'

Five eminent women will be honoured with the prestigious Begum Rokeya Padak-2022 today for their outstanding contributions to women empowerment and social development.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards to the recipients at Osmani Memorial Auditorium at 10:00am, said a press release.

The awardees are Rahima Khatun of Faridpur; Prof Kamrun Nahar Begum of Chattogram; Farida Yasmin of Satkhira; Dr Afroza Parveen of Narail and Nachima Begum of Jhenaidah.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Begum Fazilatunnesa Indira disclosed the information at a press meet in the conference room of the Press Information Department of the secretariat yesterday.

She said tomorrow (today) is "Begum Rokeya Day" (the anniversary of the birth and death of Begum Rokeya). The day is a source of endless motivation for women, she added.

Each of the recipients will be awarded a gold medal, a check for Tk 4 lakh and a certificate.
