3 trucks with Indian goods worth Tk 3cr seized at port

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have seized three Indian trucks with Indian goods worth Tk 3 crore, including sarees, three pieces, chemical products, and spectacles, which were illegally coming through the Burimari land port in Lalmonirhat's Patgram upazila.

Rangpur 61-BGB Battalion's Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Col Mir Hasan Shahriar Mahmud confirmed this information through a press conference yesterday.

BGB members of Teesta Battalion-2 under 61 BGB Battalion seized the trucks from Kala Bagan and Burimari Bus Stand around 11:00pm on Monday night.

However, none of the truck drivers and helpers were arrested.

BGB officials said through secret intel, they came to know that three trucks with Indian goods will enter Bangladesh illegally on Monday night. Burimari BOP camp BGB members of Teesta Battalion-2 conducted a raid at the Burimari bus stand area and seized the trucks, all of which were found without the owners.

After the search, the market value of recovered Indian goods was estimated at Tk 3 crore 29 lakh 84 thousand. The seized goods have been deposited at the Patagram Customs.

Locals told this correspondent that a smuggling ring has become active in Burimari land port area ahead of Eid. They are bringing goods illegally from India in various ways. Some unscrupulous traders from Burimari land port in Bangladesh and Changrabandha land port in India have become involved in this smuggling syndicate. With the help of unscrupulous traders, the gang illegally brought truckloads of Indian goods to Bangladesh.

Rangpur 61-BGB battalion's Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Colonel Mir Hasan Shahriar Mahmud said that BGB has filed a case in Patgram police station. The police will investigate and reveal the name of the owner of the goods, he said.
