1.7m child labourers in country: Monnujan Sufian

The total number of child labourers in the country is 1.7 million. Among them, the number of children engaged in hazardous work is 1.2 million.

Begum Monnujan Sufian, state minister for labour and employment, said this in parliament today.

In response to a question of Awami League lawmaker Habib Hasan, the state minister said according to the 2013 survey of the Bureau of Statistics, the number of child labours in the country is 1.7 million.

The junior minister also said, as per the survey in 2003, the number of child labourers was 3.4 million.
