Padma, Meghna divisions not right now

National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (Nicar) today put on hold a proposal to form two new divisions named Padma and Meghna with districts in Faridpur and Cumilla regions.

Law Minister Anisul Huq confirmed the development to The Daily Star after the Nicar meeting.

"We have taken a financial austerity policy. If we form two more divisions, we would have to spend a lot. So, the decision has been taken to put the proposal [to form two new divisions] on hold for now," the minister said.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
