Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said of the over three lakh animals sacrificed on Eid-ul-Azha, only 4,141 were slaughtered at the 272 designated sites within the city corporation.

Addressing a programme today, the DNCC mayor said it will be imperative to compel city dwellers, through awareness building and application of the relevant laws where necessary, to sacrifice animals at the designated places from next year.

The mayor said with the help of everyone, it will become possible to clean Dhaka within 12 hours on the first day of Eid.

The city corporation has taken the initiative to construct slaughter houses beside cattle markets with the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the mayor said.

He added that they have set up a control room at Gulshan Nagar Bhaban and its numbers are 0258814220, 09602222333 and 0960222233.

DNCC mayor is using this control room and their "Sobar Dhaka" apps to clean up the city, he said.

Urging city dwellers to keep their homes and yards clean, he said a clean atmosphere will help to control the spread of Aedes mosquitoes and keep residents safe from dengue virus.
