New law will be enacted for police: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told the parliament today that a new law for the Bangladesh Police will be enacted keeping in view of the current situation and turning police into a more people-friendly and service-oriented organisation.

The minister also said work is underway to formulate draft of Bangladesh Police Act in view of the needs of time.

In reply to a query from Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam, the home minister said, various sections and sub-sections with special emphasis on making Bangladesh Police a service-oriented organisation by making the police more people-friendly have been added in the draft Police Act.

With Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, the question-answer session was tabled.

In the question, Fakhrul Imam wanted to know whether a full-fledged law would be enacted immediately to prevent chaos in police and to ensure transparency.

In response, the home minister said the police is a disciplined force.

However, in case of negligence or violation of law by any police member in discharging his professional duties, action is taken against him as per the prevailing rules.

He also said there is no room for creating chaos in the police force.

The minister also highlighted the various laws and regulations that are effective in maintaining the internal discipline of the police.
